Free State Stars defender Robert Sankara has trumpeted the arrival of Ernst Middendorp, revealing how the German has instilled confidence back in the players following a horrible start to the season.
Stars have won three and drawn one since the arrival of Middendorp, who found the club in severe need of a boost after losing their opening three games of the season.
Without defeat under the 57-year-old coach, Ea Lla Koto have moved up to mid-table and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Telkom Knockout.
“The confidence is back,” Sankara tells KickOff.com. “The spirit of the players at training is even different now and the way we work has also changed.
“The desire to play football with the intention of winning matches is also back. We are enjoying ourselves yet again.
“The tactics of the coach has brought confidence to the players now. When the coach arrived he told us that we must not afraid to play which is what we have done. The training sessions are always tactically designed.
“The coach always makes sure that he gets his message across in a way that is understood because he wants us to play and not feel the pressure.
“We are now working towards winning every match we play and we will see where our efforts eventually lead us to. It will definitely not be anywhere near relegation because that is not what we are even thinking about at the moment.”
The Ivory Coast-born Burkina Faso international has played every minute of all the seven games played by Stars to date.
