Charlton Mashumba confident he will score goals again for Jomo Cosmos

Posted: 7 October 2015 Time: 21:19

Jomo Cosmos striker Charlton Mashumba says they will keep on fighting to get their first victory this season, although he admits he is suffering a goal drought.

Ezenkosi are yet to win a match in seven games they have played this season in all competitions, and the team has only scored two goals in those matches.

Mashumba, who extended his contract by two years during the off-season, was the spearhead in last season's NFD campaign and scored 19 goals on their way to promotion.

The 22-year-old acknowledges his lack of goals this season but says the players will not give up without a fight to get that elusive victory.

“We are trying as much as possible and you can see that but I believe the result will come. Against Maritzburg United it was just a cup game and we wanted to proceed to the next round but these things happen,” he says.

“On my goalscoring problem, goal drought, it happens to every player, even the best players in the world they can go for some games without scoring but as times goes, I mean, they do score and as an individual I will score.”

Mashumba, who has heard his club dubbed as a ‘yo-yo’ team because of their tendency to move up and down between tiers, insists he will sweat it out to ensure the club remains in the top-flight.

“I don't know where we’re gonna end but I will fight to my last drop of my blood so that I can help my team to be somewhere,” he adds.

Following the international break, second-from-bottom Ezenkosi will next see action on 17 October against Bidvest Wits away.
