Chiefs brush past Dikwena

Kaizer Chiefs are through to the next round of this year’s Telkom Knockout after a 3-0 win over Platinum Stars Moruleng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Stars had started the brighter of the two sides in the afternoon heat, yet Chiefs started to look their normal selves as the half wore on - Edward Manqele rifled his shot into the side-netting before Siphiwe Tshabalala’s long-range effort went narrowly over the bar.
Yet it was Chiefs’ towering centre-back Erick Mathoho who registered his name on the scoresheet as Tshabalala whipped in a free-kick to the far post for Erick Mathoho to head home a minute before the half-time whistle to put Amakhosi ahead.
Stars were left to chase the game in the second period, leaving gaps open in defence as Chiefs had a number of chances to increase their lead. That they did, but only late on as substitute Siphelele Mthembu finished off neatly after George Lebese’s lay-off, before George Maluleka added a third just a minute later with a neat chip over Mbongeni Mzimela to add gloss to the scoreline.
The win means Chiefs join SuperSport United, Maritzburg United, Free State Stars, Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns in the next round of the Telkom Knockout, with the Last 8 draw set to take place on Monday.
