Kwanda Mngonyama is excited about working with new Maritzburg United coach Clive Barker – and playing free of injury for a change.
The defender, on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, has been battling with an ankle injury sustained on national Under-23 duty in Tunisia.
He was unable to finish games against Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State, and missed the 4-1 defeat to Mpumalanga Black Aces altogether.
However, Mngonyama says the injury is completely cleared up and he will be available for tonight’s Telkom Knockout Cup match against Jomo Cosmos.
The 22-year-old is also hopeful they can turn their season around – problems he blames for a lack of a proper pre-season.
“Some of the players are new to the team and some of them came in on the last, maybe last two says of the transfer window,” he says.
“I also came in on the last day, so we didn’t have a proper pre-season. But we’ve got to work harder. It is dependent on us; it's not gonna be easy, but we've got to fight for it.
"Having said that, it's gonna be nice working with Clive Barker. It will be my first time and I'm looking forward to it.”
Maritzburg will be missing Thamsanqa Mkhize, Zolile Luthuli and physical trainer Marco Munhoz due to suspension.
Kick-off time for the clash at Harry Gwala Stadium is at 8pm.
