SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was delighted after his side’s laborious 2-1 win over Polokwane City in their Telkom Knockout Last 16 clash on Tuesday night.
Matsatsantsa took an early 2-1 lead, yet played 55 minutes of the match a man down following Bradley Grobler’s sending off, but we able to sustain the City pressure and hang on to their lead for the win.
Williams was in inspired form, producing a number of fine saves and denying Puleng Tlolane from the spot in his Man of the Match performance.
“It was tough,” the 23-year-old said after the game. “We knew they are a very good side, they play with the ball on the ground and believe in their football. It was very tough especially with ten men, but the boys soldiered on. The defenders were awesome, and I’m very happy.”
Williams admits luck was on his side when saving the penalty, but was thrilled in helping his side advance in the tournament.
“I just to keep my head in the game, because if they scored there, they would be on top of us even more and maybe even get the winner,” he said. “Luck was on my side tonight – on another day it could have gone in, so it’s an awesome feeling.”
