Franklin Cale wary ahead of Kaizer Chiefs clash

Ajax Cape Town winger Franklin Cale is wary of the threat a wounded Kaizer Chiefs pose ahead of their Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday evening.

The Glamour Boys were beaten 1-0 by the Urban Warriors in last weekend’s MTN8 Final, and following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with University of Pretoria, will be looking for maximum points in Cape Town as they look to avenge their Cup defeat.

Cale knows the Soweto Giants are still licking their wounds following the loss, and has called on his teammates to focus ahead of this weekend’s re-match.

“They are going to come out there and want to hammer us,” he said. “Chiefs don’t want to lose against Ajax again, but come Saturday, the boys must just be themselves.

“We must just keep our heads. We know they will come out here wanting to beat us, so we must just keep our focus and be Ajax.”

The experienced winger then revealed his delight with the return of Erwin Isaacs to the Cape side, with the former Bidvest Wits midfielder recently signing a two-year deal with the club following his loan spell last season.

Cale, who played with Isaacs as a youngster, is relishing playing alongside the 28-year-old once again, and feels he is a great addition to the Ajax squad.

“I always enjoy playing with Isaacs!” he said. “We used to play together at Sunday League level, though it’s obviously not the same now in professional football.

“But Isaacs is a very good and talented player who has a good eye for goal, and a very hard worker.”
