Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters is determined to hang onto the number one jersey at the club after impressing in Jackson Mabokgwane's absence.
Walters, who joined Aces in the off-season after spending five years with Maritzburg United, started the campaign providing cover to Mabokgwane.
However, the 33-year-old played in the team's last two matches as Mabokgwane served a suspension for receiving a red card against Mamelodi Sundowns.
And Walters is hopeful he has now won over the trust of coach Muhsin Ertugral.
"I'm here to work hard and I'm not here for retirement," Walters tells KickOff.com.
"I'm not here just for the back-up and I'm here to compete and when the opportunity comes I will go and take it. Let's see and let's hope the coach will have more faith in me going forward. At the end of the day I'm here, two-and-a-half games, seven points, it is a good start for myself."
Walters, who was part of the national squad for the 2010 World Cup, has embraced the competition with the Bafana Bafana international.
"It's good competition and it is healthy competition and everybody's pushing," he adds.
"But whoever is playing, everybody is supporting that person and that is where we gonna go forward and it has been good for us. Obviously I know he is a Bafana keeper that I'm competing with, and as long as everyone is doing well and the team then I will be happy."
