Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mario Booysen is drawing the positives from the team’s poor start to the 2015/16 campaign, saying “nothing is lacking” in terms of their performances.
The Brazilians host recently crowned MTN8 champions Ajax Cape Town at the Lucas Moripe Stadium tonight, and Booysen believes the three points at home is vital for the team to bounce back from two successive defeats.
“Obviously they are on a high and they’ve been doing well; they are on top of the log, so it’s going to be a tough one but we have to focus on what we need to do [to win],” says Booysen.
“Yes, we’ve lost two games in a row and people now are focusing on the negatives, but there are also a few positives that we can take out of those games, which we need to focus on and build on.
“At the end of the day it’s about getting the three points, no matter who we play.”
Sundowns have managed just one win in their opening five fixtures this season, while also being eliminated in the first round of the MTN8, which has caused the club’s supporters to grow increasingly frustrated with coach Pitso Mosimane.
However, Booysen argues that the team have not been doing too badly and explains that every team goes through a dip in form.
“There’s nothing lacking [in our game], it’s just that in every team you go through a dip,” he reasons.
“If you go through a dip people tend to overlook the good things, so it’s just a matter of getting three points [against Ajax] and then it will be a different story at the end of the day.
“Obviously it’s not good for a team to lose two games in a row, and then everyone starts talking [negatively]. So it’s just about focusing on the next game because we can’t do anything about the past results.”
