Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi reportedly plans to quit football “for a year or two” to further his studies.
Mahachi was not registered by the Brazilians for this season, despite turning out for Zimbabwe in their Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea 10 days ago, and is currently at his parents' home in Bulawayo.
“I am quitting football for a while, maybe for a year or two,” the 21-year-old was quoted as saying by The Herald.
“I am going back to school to do technical graphics, it happens in football and I don’t know how it happens but I have made my decision. I told my father of my thoughts and the decision I have made and he was very understanding about the issue.
“I will return very soon to football I just want to iron out some issues and my father will help me with the things I want to do.”
Mahachi was once seen as a rising star of Zimbabwe football and had trials at French Ligue 1 side Monaco.
He was signed by Sundowns after a fine performance for Zimbabwe at the 2014 African Nations Championship in South Africa.
He scored on debut in a victory over Moroka Swallows in August 2014, but made just six starts last season and has not yet been registered for this campaign.
