Moeketsi Sekola returns from injury for Free State Stars

Posted: 26 August 2015 Time: 16:47

Free State Stars striker Moeketsi Sekola will be available when Ea Lla Koto visit Ajax Cape Town tonight after recovering from a ligament strain.

The Absa Premiership’s top scorer last season with 14 goals missed the 4-0 hammering at the weekend against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

He also missed their first League game that Stars lost by a solitary goal against Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Phiri feels that his side has missed their marksman in both those matches as they still haven't scored a goal in two League games, while ironically scoring two own-goals against Chiefs.

But the Stars coach will welcome back Sekola against Ajax as he has not torn his ligament and was allowed to rest the injury further after being left out against Amakhosi.

“It was a stretched ligament and it was not torn,” Phiri tells KickOff.com.

“Missing the game against Chiefs, the doctors needed to give the ligaments a rest, otherwise it was not a big injury.”

Meanwhile, Phiri says his side needs to bounce back from the embarrassing loss to Chiefs and put on a better performance.

“We got a hammering against Chiefs but the two goals were own-goals from us, which is very unusual,” he admits.

“It was not our day and when it's not your day, it’s not your day. But I'm hoping for a better showing tonight, with the added impetus of Sekola.”

Stas go into this match missing Themba Shabalala due to suspension, while Ajax Cape Town will be without assistant coach Ian Taylor, who is also suspended.

The match kicks off at 19h30 at Cape Town Stadium.
