David Mathebula suffers broken nose remains injured

Posted: 25 August 2015 Time: 13:38

SuperSport United Gordon Igesund is likely to be without playmaker David Mathebula for a further two to four weeks after he broke his nose in the 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates a fortnight ago.

Matsatsantsa take on Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday night and Mathebula, who registered eight assists last season, will not be available for selection.

“I’m missing David, he has a broken nose,” Igesund told reporters on Monday.

“A broken nose takes up to four to six weeks [to heal]. I've got a great medical team and they will get him right. A broken nose, that [healing] will take its course and there's no quick fix for that.

“I tried to play him out there but his nose starts bleeding. It's a pity, he's a player I want to get on the field because he's very creative, but we have other players. Dove Wome will come in or Dean Furman.”

Igesund added: “I’m hoping Fagrie Lakay will be back in two weeks. He pulled a hamstring and we don't want to rush him back.”

The former Bafana Bafana coach welcomes back striker Kingston Nkhatha from suspension. The Zimbabwean was sent off for dissent in the MTN8 quarter-final loss to Bidvest Wits.

“Of course [I spoke to him], I don't want to hang up our laundry. Let's just say I wasn't very happy, I was very, very disappointed - it wasn't the correct thing to do, but it is behind us now,” said Igesund.

“I had a meeting with him, I called him up and told him exactly what I thought about the situation and the matter has been dealt with - it is behind us and we have to move forward. It was dealt with in a professional way.”
