Daine Klate says he is “not surprised” that his Bidvest Wits teammate Phumlani Ntshangase has been called-up to the national squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritania.
Ntshangase has starred for the national Under-23 team and is expected to shine during the CAF Under-23 Championships later this year.
Klate believes the 20-year-old is a “very good talent, a good boy with a good attitude and a bright future”.
“It is no surprise that he’s in the Bafana squad,” Klate said, speaking after Wits’ 4-2 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns yesterday.
The former Bafana Bafana winger bagged a brace at the Lucas Moripe Stadium but saw his teammates miss a number of chances and crack under pressure at the back.
“I’m happy with my performance, but if you end up losing there’s no real joy in it,” Klate said after the game. "You want to score – it’s good for your confidence – but you want the team to win.
“We hit the crossbar and we had so many chances, but if you don’t stick them away you will be punished, especially against a quality team like Sundowns.”
