Thabo Nthethe says pressure is on Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 22 August 2015 Time: 12:46

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe admits there's pressure to register their first win of the season heading into their Absa Premiership encounter against Bidvest Wits.

Sundowns have made a slow start to their 2015/2016 season, losing to Bloemfontein Celtic on penalties in MTN8 Cup and playing to a disappointing draw away to Platinum Stars in the League.

Playing in front of their unforgiving fans, Nthethe is well aware of the pressure they are under to finally get off the mark against a confident Wits side that registered a 2-1 win against Ajax Cape Town in the opening round PSL matches.

"Pressure will always be there," he ‘Mr Cool’ says. "We haven't won in two games so have to win this one so that we can have some relief and start converting our chances.

"Wits have started the season very well by winning their first game so it will be difficult, but we need three points."

Nthethe adds that three points against potential title contenders Wits will go a long way in shaping up the League race.

The Clever Boys have tipped been to challenge for honours this season, having recruited experienced attackers such as Daine Klate and Elias Pelembe to complement the unsettled but talented Sibusiso Vilakazi.

The former Celtic defender says knocking off points from potential title challengers this early in the season is crucial.

"The past three seasons they [Wits] have been there and consistently challenging for the League," says Nthethe ahead of the game which takes place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium today at 3pm.

"I think this season they will do well but for us to challenge for the League we have to beat such teams.”
