Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba called up the Dikwena left-back for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Mauritania on September 5.

"I thought he had good game in his last SA U-23 call-up against Zimbabwe in that 8-Nations qualifier," Johnson tells KickOff.com.

"Calling him for this match I think it is good continuity for the team and that's only thanks to SAFA. Mashaba saw him in this U-23 side and we can see that the information has been passed from one coach to another and well done from SAFA.

"As far as I'm concerned I have always known that he is good player and he played for me in all the pre-season tournaments and he played well against Mamelodi Sundowns in the first League match."

Johnson believes Zulu, who played for Chippa United last season, will learn much from the likes of fellow fullbacks Tsepo Masilela and Mzikayise Mashaba.

"He was just in the U-23s and he gets called up for the Bafana Bafana team. Whether he plays or doesn't play it's good for his future," he says.

"He will rub shoulders with Masilela, who is probably the number one left-back in the country. He will learn and there is always room for improvement for him because he's still a very young boy."

Zulu had a scintillating game when the national U-23 team beat Zimababwe 3-0 on August 1 to qualify for the CAF U-23 Championships. During that match he made telling crosses from the left flank and combined well with Keagan Dolly.

Zulu also showed promise in the goalless League draw with Mamelodi Sundowns seven days later.
