Orlando Pirates official Floyd Mbele is confident either Siyabonga Mpontshane or Felipe Ovono will prove capable replacements for injured goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo.

Mhlongo, who will have surgery today, faces six to eight weeks on the sidelines after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a 1-0 loss to SuperSport United.

“Brighton's injury is very unfortunate considering the timing,” Mbele told the club's website. “He was starting to come into his own as the regular number one,

“His injury comes at a crucial time for the club with the start of the season where we need all our players to be ready to go.

"Fortunately we have depth in our goalkeeping department with Siyabonga Mpontshane and Felipe Ovono available for selection. We are confident that our goals will be in safe hands with any of these two players in goal.”

Bucs recruited Mpontshane from Platinum Stars in January, while Equatorial Guinea international Ovono's signing was confirmed in June.
