AmaZulu have completed the signing of Ajax Cape Town defender Ayabulela Konqobe (Magqwaka) on a season-long loan deal.
The 19-year-old, who has changed his surname from Magqwaka, impressed the Usuthu technical team while on trial and will finally look to get some game-time under his belt.
The former national Under-20 captain and current Under-23 defender was loaned to SuperSport United last season but made just two appearances, while the season before he didn’t play at all due to various disputes with the Urban Warriors.
Now the talented centre-back will finally look to get some proper domestic action under his belt as he looks to aid AmaZulu’s campaign to return to the Absa Premiership.
“We’re going to do everything we can to get back into the PSL and the supporters will always be there for us,” Konqobe tells AmaZulu’s website.
“Personally I can pick up a lot from coach Steve Barker. He is a coach who has been around a lot. He believes in his players and motivates them. He knows what he is doing and obviously, as I said, the main goal is to bring ourselves back into the PSL and I think he is the perfect man to do that.”
AmaZulu will begin their NFD campaign with a home clash against Witbank Spurs on Saturday, August 22.
