Thabo Senong backs Fagrie Lakay to shine at SuperSport

Posted: 6 August 2015 Time: 22:19

South Africa Under-19s coach Thabo Senong says he is happy to hear that Fagrie Lakay has signed for SuperSport United.

Lakay, who has signed a four-year deal, broke the record for the youngest ever Bafana Bafana international when he came on against Ivory Coast in the Nelson Mandela Challenge last year.

And Senong, who doubles up as Bafana assistant, believes the player can only grow in his new surroundings.

“I can only congratulate him. It’s on merit, he deserves it and I wish him all the best,” says Senong, whose Under-19 side lost 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven in the Durban Under-19 International Tournament yesterday.

“I’m looking forward to having him in the future. He added so much value to the team, on and off the field. He was a positive influence. In the first game he played superbly well and we were unfortunate not to have him in the other two matches [after a hamstring injury]."

Senong adds that the tournament was a good dress rehearsal for his side as they are preparations to defend their Cosafa Youth Championship trophy in Zambia later this year.
