Free State Stars boss Mokoena happy with new signings

Free State Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena tells he’s confident the team has the right players at their disposal ahead of the 2015/16 season.

As in previous seasons, Ea Lla Koto have signed unknown players but Mokoena is adamant that they will deliver in the upcoming campaign.

“As you rightly say, we sign unknowns and it is unfair to say they are unknown. Maybe they are unknown to the general public, but they are known players from where they come from and that’s why they make it to the professional ranks,” he tells this website.

“We have all the confidence in the world that they would do well. There is a player [Sinethemba Jantjie] who was playing for Mbombela United in the ABC Motsepe League play-offs in Kimberley that we have signed and all the teams are going mad about him now. We long signed him and that’s due to the recruitment policy that these unknowns or so-called unknowns are unearthed. We make an effort to know them and introduce them to the country. [Moeketsi] Sekola was unknown two years ago, [Luyolo] Nomandela was unknown three seasons ago and there are lots of other players,” Mokoena argues.

“Reabotsoe Rakoti was unknown last season and he shared the club’s award for Rookie of the Season. So yeah, we make it our business to find quality, young players who are still hungry to succeed in football; coachable players who still respect the game. The amount of hours our coaches and our recruitment team spend watching amateur football, semi-pro football is incredible and we’ve created a niche; that’s our strength.

“We are not a team with the biggest pockets in the League so we need to find a place where we can survive and that’s where we survive,” he adds.

Stars’ new signings are: Mrisho Ngasa, Lucky Mohomi, Sinethemba Jantjie, Thabo Moseki, Inmawell Shelembe, Liberty Chakoroma, Sizwe Nkambule, Mpho Thulo, Tshepo Mothipa, Cebo Masena, Joseph Mhlongo and Sifiso Mbhele.
