Sekola can score 20 goals – Phiri

Free State Stars coach Kinnah Phiri believes Moeketsi Sekola is capable of scoring 20 goals in the coming season – and the striker is equally confident.
Sekola finished as the PSL’s top scorer last season with 14 goals, adding to the 11 he hit the season before – and Phiri is confident his striker will net even more in the new season.
The striker has been in demand, but Stars are determined to hold onto their prize asset, for which the coach is grateful.
“I must praise the management for making sure that Sekola doesn’t leave the team. It was not easy, I think, for them to keep him,” Phiri states.
“Now we feel that he must go from 14 and score 20 goals.”
Phiri argues that this is possible given “the way Sekola is training at the moment and the way he’s been improving.
“He’s been scoring a lot of goals at training, so we feel he would be an asset again this season.”
The 26-year-old striker shares Phiri’s confidence: “I do believe that I can score 20 goals. I’ve been getting the opportunities, but due to lack of experience I ended up not converting that much. I’m working on that and I want to make sure that when the season resumes, I’m ready and sharp,” he says.
“It is important for me that I stay at Free State Stars. Yes, I did score those 14 goals, but I need a little bit of experience because when I reflect on last season I would get three chances and I would bury one. I want to be in a position that when I get three, I must bury them all.
“Offers were coming, but I had already made up my mind that I’m staying with the team so that didn’t disturb me that much. I feel that I need at least one or two more seasons at Stars, because that is important for my career and my improvement,” Sekola adds.
