Thuso Phala is SuperSport United's new captain

Posted: 24 July 2015 Time: 21:16

Thuso Phala will captain SuperSport United in the new season, according to head coach Gordon Igesund SuperSport United.

The Bafaaa Bafana midfielder wore the armband as Matsatsantsa lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace in the pre-season Cape Town Cup this evening, and will take over permanently from last season’s skipper Clayton Daniels.

“The previous captain did very well last season and I was happy with his contribution but he doesn’t have to wear the armband to be a leader on the field,” Igesund says.

“Bongani Khumalo is also a leader … there’s a lot of leaders in my team.

“I just felt that Thuso Phala deserves the opportunity to be given more responsibility and he has had a fantastic three years, including the last two years with us. He has done very well and he’ll lead the team for us for the new season.”
