Wits coach Hunt backs new signings Pelembe, Klate

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is impressed with what he has seen from new signing Elias Pelembe in pre-season, and is convinced the playmaker will assume a key role for his side in the new campaign. revealed the Mozambique international joined Wits on a one-year deal earlier this month after a frustrating spell with Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

Pelembe saw limited game-time for the Brazilians in 2014/15, with the club opting against renewing his contract when it expired in June.

Hunt, though, is confident Pelembe and fellow recruit Daine Klate still have plenty to offer. The pair worked under Hunt during his successful spell at SuperSport United.

"I know what they can do.. what they have done for me before. I thought they got a lot in them," Hunt said last night during the MTN8 launch in Johannesburg.

"For me Pelembe has been the pre-season's best player, he has been fantastic.

"Hopefully he can strike it. He is hungry to play, he's still got the legs, same as Daine.

"They won a lot of trophies, they know how to win games and they know how I like to work and those types of situations are very important."

Hunt added the club is undecided whether to offer Lerato Chabangu a contract. Chabangu has been training with the Clever Boys for more than a month now after he left relegated Moroka Swallows.

"We still haven't made a decision there so we will wait and see. Obviously there is lot in terms of work permits with the other players, so we will see," concluded Hunt, who guided Matsatsantsa to a hat-trick of League titles from 2007 to 2010.
