SuperSport United midfielder Thuso Phala says he is honoured after being named the club’s 2014/15 Player of the Season.

Phala was handed the award – his first individual accolade as a professional footballer – at SuperSport’s season-end function in Pretoria on Thursday night.

The South African international enjoyed a superb season with Matsatsantsa a Pitori, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists in 27 starts as United finished sixth in the League standings, while also helping his side to Telkom Knockout glory.

The former Platinum Stars, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder hopes that this award will inspire him to win even more awards next season.

"I’m very honoured, very proud and very happy to get this award because it is the first time I receive an individual award," Phala said.

"I'm very grateful to my team mates, to the coach and the support staff from the club for giving me the opportunity. Hopefully this will be a stepping stone moving forward."

The 29-year-old added that his focus is to be nominated for the PSL awards next season and this will only inspire him to double his efforts.

"This can be only a motivation for me to work more harder,” he said. “There are still PSL awards for me to achieve which I'm looking forward too hopefully next season it will happen.

"So this is just a motivation for me to work even harder and to be more consistent. Hopefully there are more things to come."
