Chippa United finally decide to sign Legato Manzini

Chippa United have performed a double U-turn and changed their mind again about Lerato Manzini, now confirming they have finally signed the striker on a free transfer.

KickOff.com revealed last Friday that Chippa had sealed an agreement with the player, who was then missing for the club’s unveiling of nine new signings earlier this week, fuelling speculation that he may have received another offer.

It then emerged that Manzini went ‘AWOL’ and could not be reached, with Chilli Boys chairman Sivive ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi telling this website that he had pulled his offer after the player failed to attend Tuesday’s press conference in Cape Town.

However, Mpengesi has had a change of heart after finally getting hold of Manzini and thrashing things out.

"Yes, we have resolved the matter and the boy was just busy,” Mpengesi tells KickOff.com.

“I was phoned by his father that the boy was not AWOL so we are definitely taking him. The contract has been finalised and it is a three-year deal. He's joining the club on Saturday in Durban.”

The player's agent, Lizwe Mthethwa of Aftersec Sport Group, explains that it was all just a breakdown in communication.

“It was a misunderstanding and the player never went AWOL, he went on holiday with his family in Mauritius. He was out of the country so he was not around. Everything has been sorted out now,” Mthethwa says.

“The contract is still the three-year deal that was confirmed at first. It was just the sinister forces that at first prevented the move from happening and we are sorry for what has happened to the fans of the player and football people at large in the country."
