Orlando Pirates have withdrawn most of their players from Bafana Bafana ahead of the CHAN qualifier game against Mauritius in Soweto on Saturday.
Pirates have recalled their charges in preparation for their CAF Confederation Cup game against AC Leopards of Congo next weekend.
Bucs administrative manager Floyd Mbele confirmed that their players being withdrawn from Bafana, although Thamsanqa Gabuza and Tshepo Gumede will remain with the national side. Gabuza is suspended for the Leopards tie after picking up two yellow cards in continental action for the Sea Robbers, while Gumede is not registered for the competition.
"We have 5 to 21 days to apply for the visas and we needed the players passports to apply for visas,” Mbele tells KickOff.com.
"The game against Leopards is next weekend and we need to travel next week,” he added.
Reports reveal that up to five PSL clubs have withdrawn their players from the national squad, putting Bafana in disarray ahead of Saturday’s match, with only locally-based players allowed to compete.
Following the overseas-based players departure, additional squad members were set to be announced today, yet no information has been forthcoming.
Safa then announced that the squad’s training session on Thursday had been cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
