The R50-million centre situated in Midrand – between host cities Johannesburg and Pretoria - will be officially opened by Premier Mbhazima Shilowa.
It will coordinate all disaster and emergencies related issues in the province.
The promulgation of the Disaster Management Act in 2004 has placed a strict requirement on provinces and municipalities to ensure that respective communities would be protected against potential risk and have sufficient capacity to deal with disasters.
Apart from the World Cup, the centre would also service the Gauteng Rapid Rail system which is expected to be launched ahead of the tournament.
