The infrastructure costs for hosting the 2010 World Cup have escalated by R600m (from R2.8bn to R3.4bn).

That’s according to Deputy Finance Minister Jabu Moleketi (above) who addressed a media conference on government’s state of readiness in Pretoria on Tuesday.

“We are looking at projected escalation and we are going to interrogate all the numbers that come from this,” he said.

Moleketi reiterated that that the various 2010-related construction projects were on track and sceptics would “eat their words”.
