A total of 23 foreign-based players are in line for selection for Gambia ahead of next week’s African Nations Cup qualifier in South Africa.
Peter Bohu Johnson’s provisional squad includes a possible return to the side for 35-year-old goalkeeper Pa Dembo Touray, who has spent the last four seasons at Santos, plus debuts for English-based Modou Secka Barrow of Swansea City and Middleborough’s Mustapha Carayol.
Sam Jammeh and Pa Amat Dibba, who play at clubs in Sweden, and the Senegal-born Macoumba Kandji, who is based in Saudi Arabia, are also in line for a first cap.
A final squad will be selected before Friday’s planned departure for Uganda, where Gambia plan a friendly next week before flying into South Africa.
