Ekstein reflects on bitter sweet Bafana debut in Cosafa Cup

Posted: 31 May 2015 Time: 14:32

Kaizer Chiefs attacker Hendrick Ekstein was pleased to earn his first cap for South Africa but was naturally disappointed by the team's early Cosafa Cup exit.

The 24-year-old replaced Orlando Pirates-bound midfielder Gift Motupa in a midweek Plate Section tie with Malawi after missing Bafana Bafana's tournament opener with Botswana.

Bafana lost both games on penalties following goalless draws in Rustenburg.

“The result was not fine for us. We really wanted to get through,” Ekstein told Chiefs' website.

“Playing for Bafana is a big thing. It’s every player’s dream to play for South Africa and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
