Free State Stars captain Paulus Masehe says the team's rescue act this past season was down to a change in attitude.
Ea Lla Koto were facing the real threat of relegation but landed up finishing just two points shy of a top-eight finish after winning five and drawing one of their last six games.
“I think the mindset and attitude of the players changed completely in those last six games,” Masehe told the club's website.
“We just decided that we absolutely had to win, and I think the position we found ourselves in on the table, in the relegation zone, is what opened our eyes.
“We didn’t want to get into the same situation as the 2013/2014 season where we went into the last match still fighting to survive.”
The 31-year-old, who recently penned a new contract in Bethlehem, called on his teammates to start next term with the right mindset.
"We need to show the right attitude from the start of the season; the same attitude we showed in the last six games of this past season,” he said.
“The management must also try and keep as many players as possible to ensure continuity. We need to keep the core of the team and I believe the management intends to do that.”
