Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Steve Lekoelea is expected to make his long-awaited return to football when Platinum Stars visit Free State Stars for their Absa League fixture at Goble Stadium on Sunday.

Platinum Stars co-coach Thierry Mulonzo has confirmed that Lekoelea is now ready for action and will definitely be part of the team travelling to face Ea lla Koto.

“Steve is now ready for action and has been very impressive at training. His hunger, enthusiasm and great attitude at training has put him into contention for the starting line up.

“However, we will be patient in terms of playing him as we are still working on his match fitness.

“We have no doubt that once Chippa gets his fitness back to a high level, he will be a great asset to the team.”

Lekoelea’s manager Jazzman Mahlakgane has thanked Platinum Stars’ management for giving the Sebokeng-born star an opportunity to play soccer again.

“Many people had written Steve off, but Stars still had trust in his ability. It’s time now for people to take a back seat and watch Steve Lekoelea performing to his best abilities,” he adds.

I have at no point in time doubted Steeeve ability to recover. The man has what it takes to be one of the best players SA has ever produced. I am longing to see him banging those free kicks not to mention him mesmerizing defenders.
