Modise was star of the show with a brace.

Bafana ease to win

Bafana ease pressure on Parreira

Posted: 30 March 2010 Time: 11:21 am

The Bafana Bafana ‘B’ side ran out comfortable winners in a 2-0 friendly success over Canada at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Tuesday night.

Two goals from Teko Modise just before halftime eased the pressure somewhat on coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, who will be pleased with the overall performance, and weighing up his options for his African Nations Cup squad after an assured display from the ‘second-stringers’.

Terror Fanteni was put clear on five minutes in a bright start by the home side, but his shot was straight at goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld, who saved with his legs and the chance was gone.

Just a minute later good work from Lance Davids fed Bryce Moon, whose tantalizing cross was met at the near post by Fanteni, but his header was put wide when he should have at least hit the target.

Davids was then put clear, but pushed wide, in a frantic first ten minutes, and his attempted cross was too close to the keeper with teammates racing into the area.

Lerato Chabangu had a great chance at the back post when Bernard Parker’s corner found him unmarked, but his attempted first-time shot skewed tamely wide.

Josh Simpson should have put Canada ahead on 20 minutes when he also found space at the back post – and had time to place his shot – but let fly with a wild swing that put the ball across goal and hopelessly wide.

Nice work between Chabangu and Modise saw the latter shoot low, but straight at Hirschfeld, after which Modise went down in the area under pressure from the Canadian defenders, but the referee waved play-on.

The goal the home side craved came on 39 minutes with a screamer from Modise from 30-yards. Had they had their way, Orlando Pirates would have made sure Modise wasn’t playing in this match, but Bafana fans will be thankful he was after he collected the ball on the edge of the area and side-footed a powerful shot past Hirschfeld to record Bafana’s first friendly goal in six matches.

And one became two as Fanteni won a penalty on the stroke of halftime when Canada captain Paul Stalteri, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in England, brought him down for a blatant award.

Modise put the spot-kick away, which meant he has now scored five of the side’s last six goals, proving his worth with his weaponry from midfield.

Davids stung the palms of Hirschfeld early in the second period from 35-yards, but his skimming shot was pushed out for a corner by the keeper, before Modise found space in the Canada box on the hour-mark, but instead of going for his hat-trick, he unselfishly crossed for Fanteni, who was just beaten to the ball by Stalteri.

Chabangu then had two shots flash wide in a few minutes as Bafana poured forward in search of more goals, while at the other end goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez had to be smart to save from Tomasz Radzinski.

The game was soured on 78 minutes when Stalteri received his second yellow card, presumably for something he said to the Malawian referee and Canada were down to 10 men.

After that the sting had gone from the game and Bafana resorted to entertaining the crowd with tricks and flicks as they ran down the clock in what ultimately was a comfortable win.

wonderful in deed. Bafana A are hopefuly going to be the team that shone tonight in the future. They are ready to take over where the most aweful team ive ever seen left off. A team that managed to drop us over 60 places in the fifa ranking over about 8 years. Hopefully its time for this new team to take over! They were world class.

Who won bafana /Canada? This result show us we need to play against the countries that are not far from us interms of FIFA rankings.

We must stop challenging big guns at the moment lets take it step by step to boost our low morals. We are 33positions behind Canada but we did beat them comfortably now we cango to the top 40 and challenge countries like Northern Ireland,Japan and Republic of Ireland for practice.Any one with on that!

These players are the future of the country.I agree with Daennyb, we need to instill a winning culture by playing against moderate opposition, teams almost equal in strength.Bevan Fransman(my boy)is the future, for sure.

Well what more can be said about this team...PASSIONATE!This guys could have done the job against USA.Forget the scoreline but look at how they played and combined well as compared to the so-called A-Team.This is the team to be groomed going into the future. If it were possible at all and have a game between the A and B teams,I guarantee the A would be walloped. Those players are passionate about representing mzansi and give it their all.VIVA B-TEAM VIVA!

The game against Canada...was a wake up call to the technical team that our South African style of football should be conserved...when we display our style...no team can cope...If Sibaya can be called for Bafana I will really give up to the technical team...and again Khune should have been given a chance in that game...(Xolani Chithani-Indwe) where are you my friend)

Bafana A have reached their peak. They have already achieved their dreams, if we building towards 2010, Parrera must pay his attention on the B side, reason being Bafana A will be old for 2010 and Bafana B will be well groomed by 2010. Fernandez must be dropped, and consider Moneeb Joseph and Itumeleng Khune.

I am no trying to be negative here but I have a feeling that these local players are doing their best for diffrent reasons:

1.To book their tickets to the AFCON next year
2.To impress the overseas scouts
3.To outsmart the overseas Bafana players

After all the reasons I have mentioned, it will be back to scratch and the very same players will do the very same things that are being done by the overseas based south african players

So I\'ll rather wait and see if they realy mean business and waht type of business the meant
