A late second-half strike by substitute Thobani Mncwango ensured Polokwane City settled for a point when they drew 2-2 against Mpumalanga Black Aces at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.
For the visitors, Collins Mbesuma and Lehlohonolo Nonyane were on target as well as Puleng Tlolane scoring the opener for the hosts.
The draw leaves AmaZayoni eleventh with 31 points on the Absa Premiership standings, whilst Rise and Shine remain at the 9th spot with 34 points.
Both sides began the match on a high as they both play attacking football, but it was the hosts who started to probe and questions of Jackson Mabokgwane, with Tlolane the main threat.
In the 16th minute, Tlolane managed to find an opener when he grabbed a goal with his right foot assisted by Roger Majafa.
In the 25th minute, Kostadin Papic’s men continued to push forward in search of a second goal but the Bafana Bafana keeper proved his worth as he parried Majafa’s attempt away.
Five minutes later AmaZayoni’s experienced forward Mbesuma found the net when he converted an assist from his former Golden Arrows teammate Thanduyise Khuboni.
With four minutes to go to the interval, the visitors bounced back to bag the second goal through Nonyane as he slotted the ball into the net as Aces took the lead.
The second stanza resumed and the hosts came with a plan to push forward and that was evident when Cole Alexander unleashed a shot, but Mabokgwane was equal to it.
With 20 minutes to go, Onyekachi Okonkwo managed to break free in the midfield and took a shot but Modiri Marumo made a brilliant save to deny the visitors another before Khuboni was sent off for a second bookable offence.
In the 79th minute, substitute Thobani Mncwango pulled one back for the Citizens when he received an assist from his skipper Jabu Maluleke and he easily slotted home with a left-footed finish. Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages as both sides settled for a point.
