Jomo Cosmos striker Charlton Mashumba in Zimbabwe squad for Cosafa Cup

Posted: 29 April 2015 Time: 15:28

Jomo Cosmos forward Charlton Mashumba has been included in Zimbabwe’s provisional squad for the forthcoming 2015 Cosafa Cup.

Mashumba – who has previously been capped at youth international level – has been in fine scoring form for Cosmos in the First Division with 13 League goals to his name already.

The 22-year-old remains largely unknown back home as he came to South Africa as a teenager three years ago straight from lower division club DC Academy, first playing for Blackburn Rovers before switching to Cosmos at the beginning of last year.

Mashumba will have SuperSport United goalkeeper George Chigova for familiar company from players earning their salaries in South Africa while Royal Eagles-bound midfielder Ronald Chitiyo has also been included.

Chigova has struggled at SuperSport this season since joining from Zimbabwean champions Dynamos at the beginning of the season.

The Warriors will do battle with Mauritius (May 17), Seychelles (May 19) and Namibia (May 21) in Group A with the pool winner progressing to the quarterfinals where a date with Zambia awaits on May 24.

The Final of the regional tournament will be played at Moruleng Stadium in the North West province on May 30, two days after the semifinals.
