Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler was full of praise for debutant Mpho Mvelase following his side’s 2-1 defeat of Mpumalanga Black Aces on Wednesday evening.
The 25-year-old started his first game for the Buccaneers since joining during the January transfer window from Chippa United.
He looked composed on the ball and even had a chance to get his name on the score-sheet, but for a fine save from Jackson Mabokgwane.
Tinkler explained his decision to start Mvelase, saying: “He made his debut tonight because we didn't want to risk [Mpho] Makola, who has tendinitis.
“Mvelase did well and played to the instructions. His performance was pleasing for a guy who has just come into the side like this.
“He got the crowd behind him, set up chances and got used to the tempo of the PSL game versus the friendlies. I'm very happy with him.”
