National U-23 coach Owen da Gama has called up Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho, Mamelodi Sundowns' Stanley Makgoka and Avela Cezu of M Tigers for Saturday's friendly with Palestine.
The South Africans are using the match in Hebron to prepare for an All Africa Games qualifier against Sudan in Khartoum next weekend, while their hosts are getting ready for an Olympic Games qualifier with Iraq.
“We invited players from the National First Division,” said Da Gama. “We also invited players from Port Elizabeth, East London, Free State, Western Cape, but unfortunately their clubs could not release them.
“However, I understand their positions and although there are countless players that I would have loved to be with us here, their clubs refused to release them and so we cannot whine and moan but have to get the job done.
“I am quite happy and satisfied about the group of players that have honoured their call-ups and although it had been pretty difficult, we are here in Palestine and let’s go out there and carry our national fly high.”
