Mamelodi Sundowns closed the gap on leaders Kaizer Chiefs to eight points with a 5-0 demolition job of Polokwane City on Wednesday night.
Khama Billiat struck twice to go with goals from Cuthbert Malajila, Anthony Laffor and Rodney Ramagalela at Loftus Stadium as Downs made the most of Chiefs' 1-0 loss to Maritzburg United on the same evening.
Sundowns started the match with a high tempo, making it clear that they wanted the full pointsy. In the 14th minute Laffor took a good strike to try and open the scoring for Sundowns, but it went wide.
A minute later Malajila finally got it right as he took the lead for Sundowns courtesy of Laffor’s assist.
Sundowns continued to attack and in the 25th minute Laffor was finally rewarded as he supplied a good finish, with Malajila providing the assist.

In the second half City looked to make a strong comeback, with Puleng Tlolane taking a threatening shot that went wide of the left-hand post.

A minute later Tlolane also tried his luck, but his shot went wide of the right hand upright.
In the 77th minute Brazilian coach Pitso Mosimane introduced goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.
Mweene was welcomed by a shot from Sipho Jembula, but he managed to save it, ensuring that his club maintained a clean sheet.
In the 89th minute Billiat netted the fourth goal for Sundowns following a clever backheel from Laffor and a minute later substitute Ramagalela also registered his name on the scoresheet after being set up by Billiat.
