Golden Arrows coach Shaun Bartlett hailed the impact of new signings Andile Fikizolo and Mabhuti Khenyeza following the 3-1 win over Jomo Cosmos in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.
Fikizolo, who is on loan at Arrows from SuperSport United, netted his third goal in four matches against Cosmos, while veteran striker Khenyeza has also impressed with his work-rate and link-up play for the NFD leaders.
"I said that from day one; against Milano United they came in and they made an impact and not because they score goals, just the attitude and application in the game," Bartlett tells KickOff.com.
"Mabhuti for me, I said to him before the game [Cosmos] with his work-rate at his age... he can still play another seven or eight years because he inspires people around him and that is the type of a player you want to have in a team as long as possible."
Meanwhile, Bartlett was naturally pleased with the result against Cosmos which was secured via strikes from Fikizolo, Prince Nxumalo and Deon Hotto.
"I wouldn't say it was a judgement result and obviously for me it shows the people and the players how far we have come as a team," he says.
"Since the beginning of the season and you [pointing to the media] including a lot of people, didn't give us a chance because we are a brand new team and a lot of young players and an inexperienced coach.
"But what I said to my players, we got to earn each other's respect and trust."
Abafana Bes'thende have 41 points from 21 matches, two points more than Ezenkosi, and three in front of third-placed Thanda Royal Zulu.
Bartlett's side are also through to the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup where they will meet neighbouring minnows Natal United on March 22.
