Nedbank Cup last-32 Platinum Stars The Magic FC

Posted: 22 February 2015 Time: 15:21

Platinum Stars opened their Nedbank Cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat of minnows The Magic in Rustenburg on Sunday.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Eleazar Rodgers netted either side of a successful penalty from Vincent Khumalo at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Dikwena, who are battling the threat of relegation in the League, made the ideal start, as Rodgers's flick-on found the back of the net in the third minute.

Khumalo doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time, converting from the spot after Edgar Manaka was brought down in the area.

New Stars signing Bryce Moon nearly added another goal just past the hour-mark but his low shot was foiled by the upright.

Moon, however, turned provider soon after, as his cross was nodded home by the towering Rodgers in the 66th minute.

Vuyo Mere could have made it 4-0 in the latter stages of the last-32 tie, but the experienced right-back blasted the ball over with the goal at his mercy.

Dambe, Mere, Sithole, Shitolo, Masenamela, Mathe, Khumalo, Moon, Manaka, Segolela, Rodgers.
Magic FC: O’Brien, Fransch, Dickson, Opperman, Bezuidenhout, Sotashe, Maqungo, Okkers, Seti, Williams, Petersen.
