Gumede eyes a second CAF Champions League title for Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates newcomer Tshepo Gumede says his ultimate ambition in Mayfair is to emulate the Buccaneers' Champions League triumph of 1995.

Pirates - who also reached the Final in 2013 - are the only South African team to win Africa's premier club competition.

"My personal goal, more than anything else is to be part of the generation of players that help Pirates recapture the Champions League but first we have to start with securing the League points and then only we can start on making that dream a reality," Gumede told Bucs' official website.

Gumede made his Sea Robbers debut in the 4-0 victory over Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup earlier this week. And the defender, a January signing from Platinum Stars, was thrilled to start his tenure in positive fashion.

"I’m over the moon by not only the fact that I played but that as a team we did so well. My confidence is high because this performance shows the whole team is hungry to play.

"It also shows that there is a healthy competition between the players because we are all competing for a place in the squad and whichever player is given an opportunity to play wants to do well."

The 23-year-old added: "I am sure the coach must be developing a headache over who to pick and I am happy for as long as I am part of that headache because it means I am doing my job."
