Thanda Royal Zulu beat Bay United 2-1 win at the EPRU Stadium on Wednesday evening, thanks to a late strike by midfielder July Mahlangu.
Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker opened the scoring for Thanda, with Jimmy Zakazaka equalising from the spot in second half, only for Mahlangu to secure the points for the visitors with a superb strike minutes before the end.
Bay United suffered a major setback early on when captain Duran Francis was forced to off with an injury, with Asanda Mvalo replacing the defender.
Parker handed the visitors the lead in the 26th minute he slotted home from a good cross from left-back Thabiso Rammile.
The hosts then suffered a further setback when veteran Cyril Nzama sustained an injury and had to be replaced by Paulus Shipanga in the 38th minute.
Bay United midfielder Gareth Ncaca brought the best out of Thanda goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe in the 43rd, with the former Chiefs man tipping a shot round the post to keep his side's one-goal lead intact heading into half time.
Shipanga spurned a glorious chance to bring his side level three minutes after the restart, heading over the crossbar from close range with only Mathibe to beat. In the 53rd minute Rammile tried his luck from range, but Bartman was never likely to be bothered by the defender's effort.
United missed out on another fine chance to bring themselves back on level terms, with Zamuxolo Ngalo shooting straight at Mathibe after latching onto Linos Chalwe's cross in the 58th minute.
Down the other end a few minutes later it was Bartman who was forced into action, this time catching Mahlangu's shot from the centre of the penalty area as the visitors tried to killed off the game.
Sakhile Makhathini picked out Chalwe with a good cross in the 77th minute, but the lanky Bay United striker couldn't direct his header beyond the reach of Mathibe.
However, a minute later, Musa Nyatama brought down substitute Zakazaka and Bay United were awarded a penalty. The Malawian forward stepped up to take the spot kick himself and dispatched it into the back of the net to make it 1-1 with ten minutes to play.
Mahlangu had other ideas, though, capitalising on some sloppy defending from the hosts to fire home a terrific winner from 25 yards out in the 83rd minute. United tried to hit back of the net once more, but the visitors held out to claim an important victory.
