Elias Pelembe, Ejike Uzoenyi CAF Champions League omission explained

Posted: 18 February 2015 Time: 14:05

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained the reasons behind his team not registering Elias Pelembe and Ejike Uzoenyi for the CAF Champions League.

Pelembe is yet to renew his contract with Sundowns while Uzoenyi is currently carrying a long-term injury, according to Mosimane.

The Mozambican international is also yet to play for the Brazilians in an official game this year and missed the League game against Moroka Swallows last week.

"You must remember we did the CAF list in December and imagine I included him and he signs a pre-contract with somebody else and says I want to go now.

"Like what happened at Platinum Stars, people are moving. Imagine I put him on the CAF list and don't have him, I lose one spot and so I had to play safe," explains Mosimane.

"We spoke to him, he knows, he is professional. He is busy negotiating for a new contract. There are three rounds to play before the group stages and if he is doing well and has renewed his contract we will go with him," he adds.

Mosimane says Uzoenyi is still nursing an injury and is only expected back in the middle of March.

"He is injured and will be out for next six games," adds the Brazilians coach.
