Orlando Pirates recruit Tshepo Gumede is especially optimistic about his future at the club after having a private meeting with coach Eric Tinkler.
Gumede, who is suspended for Pirates' clash with AmaZulu on Wednesday, joined the Soweto giants last month from Platinum Stars.
He told Bucs' official website: I’m slowly getting to know the guys and they are opening up to me which makes it easier. All the senior players are taking time to show me the ropes and explain how things are done at Pirates. I can honestly say all the guys are welcoming and are very patient with me and that is very me comforting because it gives me that sense of belonging.
"The coach has also been talking to us [new signing] and since my arrival, he has called me to his office for a one-on-one session. He explained what he wanted from the players in general, how he wanted me to play and basically explained how he expected the team to play in different scenarios. That is especially encouraging for a player to be given that kind of attention from the beginning and that is why I’m happy and optimistic about my stay at Pirates."
The 23-year-old is eager to contribute to the Sea Robbers' legacy, having helped Dikwena to MTN8 and Telkom Knockout honours in 2013/14.
"When I arrived I was told about what this club means to this country, and how we need to make sure that while we are here, we contribute to the legacy. That is something you don’t always hear because everyone else talks about trophies. When you are here, it’s about more than just trophies.
"Having said that, I want to contribute to the club’s culture of winning championships, raise my pedigree to a level worthy of a Pirates player and be the best player I can possibly be. That alone will get me noticed and help me stake a claim to the national team jersey as well."
