Worst Foreign Striker – Chiukepo Msowoya (No. 19)

Posted: 19 January 2015 Time: 11:29

KickOff.com’s Lovemore Moyo is counting down the 30 worst foreign strikers to grace these shores in the PSL era – and at number 19 is former Orlando Pirates man Chiukepo Msowoya.

Number 30 - Shingi Kawondera

Number 29 - Serge Djiehoua

Number 28 - Kabanga Tshamala

Number 27 - Norikazu Murakami

Number 26 - Bryan Aldave

Number 25 - Aubin Takutchie

Number 24 Elton Morelato

Number 23 - Louis Agyemang

Number 22 - Rodreck Mutuma

Number 21 – Joseph Masel

Number 20 - Ibrahim Omotayo

19 - Chiukepo Msowoya (Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars)

Msowoya was touted as being better than Didier Drogba back home by some Malawi fans when Ivory Coast arrived in Blantyre for an AFCON qualifier four years ago.

However, his time at Pirates was difficult …he was handed 15 starts (plus two substitute appearances) in his first year (2010-11) at the club, reaping just two goals – one in the cup and one in the League, which was a beauty against Ajax Cape Town.

Then after failing to break into the team during the first half of the following season he was loaned to Platinum Stars where he scored a single goal in two starts and two substitute outings.

Msowoya was later released by The Bucs on his return at the beginning of the 2012-13 season, and he decided to head back home.

Although he never had the best of times in Mayfair he went away with three winners’ medals after Pirates won the 2010/11 League title, 2010 MTN8 and 2011 Nedbank Cup.

Msowoya was playing in Mozambique last year and was part of Malawi’s squad at the 2010 AFCON finals.
