PSL transfer news Siyabonga Mpontshane, Tshepo Gumede contract talks break down

Posted: 14 January 2015 Time: 14:17

Mamelodi Sundowns have been granted permission to open contract talks with defender Tshepo Gumede, while Siyabonga Mpontshane has also failed to agree on a new Platinum Stars deal.

Gumede – whose contract runs up in June – has been a Brazilians target for some time, with Dikwena taking Sundowns to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber for alleged poaching of the player.

But after new contract talks broke down, Stars have given Sundowns permission to officially engage with the player about a move to Chloorkop during the current transfer window.

Goalkeeper Mpontshane – who has been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates or SuperSport United – has also reached a stalemate in negotiations and is likely to leave for pastures new.

"Contract renewal negotiations between Tshepo Gumede and Siyabonga Mpontshane have reached a stalemate," Stars stated on their official Twitter account.

"The team, having made what it deems reasonable offers to the respective players, is unable to meet the counter offers by both Gumede and Siya [Mpontshane].

"Sundowns have been offered an opportunity to engage Mr Gumede with a view of us releasing him during this current transfer window period."
