On loan-Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Kumalo is nearing a return to fitness with Maritzburg United.
The 23-year-old hasn’t featured for the Team of Choice after being plagued by injury all season. He underwent knee surgery in October, but Maritzburg boss Steve Komphela is hopeful that the player will make a recovery before Maritzburg host Wits on February 10.
“We have a perfect opportunity over the next three weeks to try and get him ready,” Komphela says. “He is currently with the fitness coaches, but from next week we will start having training matches and we will use that to see how fit he is.”
Maritzburg have been quiet in the transfer window so far, but Komphela says that there are “one or two” options that the club is looking at.
“In football it is better to do than to say,” he says. “We are not quiet. We are monitoring what is going on.”
United are currently seventh on the PSL log, despite collecting just two points from their final four fixtures of 2014.
“By our standards, that was disappointing,” Komphela says of his side’s lacklustre end to the year. “But maybe what it does is give us an opportunity to look back, reflect and know that nothing will ever be given to us.”
