Bloemfontein Celtic youngster Dumisani Zuma says he is delighted with his call-up to the South African U-20 national side, and sees this as a stepping stone to a spot in the Bafana Bafana set-up.
The 19-year-old, who joined Siwelele at the start of the campaign from second division side Kings United in Pietermaritzburg, has been impressive in the green and white this far this season, featuring in 13 matches in all competitions and chipping in with two goals and two assists.
His good club form has earned him a call-up to the U-20 national side that will face Qatar in a friendly on 10 January, before jetting off to Saint Petersburg to play in a Russia Commonwealth tournament for 15-26 January.
Zuma said he is honoured by the call-up, which has taken him a step closer to achieving his dream of one day playing for Bafana Bafana.
“I’m eternally grateful and no words can express my joy for being selected for the national team,” the skilful right-winger told his club’s official website.
“It has always been my wish to don the national colours and I see this as a huge chance for me to commit and eventually play for the senior national team.”
Zuma credits his club teammates, staff and management for his call-up as he eagerly prepares for the upcoming adventure with the junior national side.
“I must concede that playing alongside players like Musa Nyatama and Lerato Lamola has moulded me into one strong and fearless player,” he said.
“The zeal to play for my country was inspired by such magnificent support from management and technical team alike.
“I can’t wait; the journey to prosper begins now.”
