AmaZulu Moroka Swallows PSL report

Posted: 20 December 2014 Time: 18:50

Two second half goals saw Moroka Swallows fight back to down AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Bongani Ndulula had given bottom-placed Usuthu a first half lead, but halftime sub Siyabonga Nomvete levelled just two minutes after coming on.

Boris Savic then headed home with just four minutes remaining to hand the Birds a crucial three points in the relegation battle.

After a couple of early half chances for both sides, it was AmaZulu who opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Ndulula, who headed home a great cross from Sifiso Hlanti.

The Durban side went on to enjoy the better of the rest of the first half, but they were unable to put a second goal past Swallows keeper Greg Etafia.

At the other end of the field, Usuthu goalie Aubrey Mathibe was generally untroubled, though the likes of Lerato Chabangu and Vuyisile Wana provided some sporadic threats for the visiting side.

The Birds made a change at the start of the second half, replacing Chabangu with striker Nomvete, and the veteran made an immediate impact. Latching onto an assist by Felix Obada, he beat Mathibe to make it 1-1 within a minute of the restart.

AmaZulu responded with a double change from coach Steve Barker, sending on Khulekani Madondo and Nkosinathi Mthiyane. The duo helped the home side enjoy ascendancy in the middle of the park and look the likelier scorers.

Ndulula almost grabbed his second goal of the game in the 63rd minute, but his right-footed shot was parried away by Etafia.

Usuthu were then hit by a sucker punch of a goal in the 86th minute when Dikgang Mabalane’s cross was headed home by Savic to put the Birds 2-1 up.

That goal proved to be the difference between the teams. The Soweto side move up to 11th on the log on 19 points, while AmaZulu remain bottom of the standings with just nine points.

You are Spot on my Brother, the Win Must Not make Leon Prins to relax, he Must allow Madida to bring at least 4 Players two defenders and two Strikers so that the Team can avoid Relegation and may be compete for a Top 8 Spot. The Team is too weak in Defence with the worst Defensive Record since Last Season with also a weak striking Force .

Madida is doing something good for Swai Swai. I hope Nomvete is given two more seasons. This guy is a real Swai Swai messiah.

Coaches sometimes kill players...Why was Zeca benching Nomvete, why freese benching Ngele and why Baxter subtitutes Shabba for Gould while we still 20 mins away from finishing the game.

Ja Swallows!!! Y is Nomvete still playing anyways? Poor uneducated guy, No!! Actuali poor planning...where r the investments??? Where is. The youth??? Development players???.
