Premier Soccer League Orlando Pirates Ajax Cape Town

Posted: 13 December 2014 Time: 18:09

Orlando Pirates reasserted their pedigree with a 4-0 thumping of Ajax Cape Town in Soweto on Saturday night.

Lehlohonolo Majoro struck twice to go with goals from Siyabonga Sangweni and Kermit Erasmus as Bucs ended a four-game winless run in the Absa Premiership.

The Sea Robbers, though, will be sweating over the fitness of striker Lennox Bacela, who was forced off with a knee injury before the break at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates dominated a goalless opening half, but Bacela and Majoro were unable to beat the perfectly-placed Anssi Jaakkola with low shots on target.

The Buccaneers then lost the services of Bacela in the 57th minute after he collided heavily with former Bafana Bafana midfielder Lance Davids, prompting the introduction of fellow forward Erasmus.

Eric Tinkler's men, however, took control of the tie with three unanswered goals in an eight-minute spell.

Majoro got the opener as he steered in a 58th minute corner, with the ball hitting the woodwork before bouncing in off the back of Jaakkola.

The ex-Kaizer Chiefs man completed his brace three minutes later with a tap-in on the rebound after Jaakkola kept out an effort from Erasmus.

Sangweni also got in on the act in the 66th minute when he was allowed to slot in a corner unchallenged in the Ajax box.

Erasmus was likewise not to be denied, as he sealed the rout with a composed finish in the final minute.

I personally feel that Pirates should have appointed a head coach when vv left rather than having Tinkler as a caretaker coach. When a new coach arrive he will try to build a team from scratch but if he started this season, they will be continuity next season.

If Majoro can be played regularly, he could easily become the top goal scorer of the season and that will benefit the team in the end. I also sense that Eric is still not convinced with Major. He prefers Erasmus and Bacela over this goal poacher. Eric don't mess with us pls. Majoro will definitely be in Equatorial Guinea playing this January and deserves more game time!

@Bongz

I believe it is the chage in formation, because it gives us numbers going forward. what Tinkler has done is he has played Ruud Krols style of football, but giving players freedom to express themselves.

people dont notice that we are playing a 3-5-2 formation with Phungwayo and Jele adding numbers in attack.. when Phungwayo moves forward Jele, sangweni and Roy provide cover... Makola and Myeni/Ragale are not wingers, but they gve us numbers in midfield and give ace a free role to dance.

the players are committed in turning things around we are lft with 2 games before the Christmas break and this workin our advantage as this will help the Team master this formation all i can say is we going up. thee is a saying in Zulu that says #isinamuva liyabukwa... like Jesus at the Carna wedding the best wine served last...

Your right sir but Major started scoring after Erasmus was introduced, the second goal was a bounce from Erasmus...

Classic example of why we need to play two strikers - Looking at the "own goal" we definately needed two stikers in the box, if we played only one striker (Erasmus) there wouldn't be anyone (Majoro) finishing. Hope this is a wake up call to Tinkler and co. A good game gents, tactically on point and very well organised defensively (first time this season). now lets keep the focus and go to Dobsie with that winning mentality. Swallows beat us in the first game of the league so underestimating them would be at our peril - we need to win this time round.
