Premier Soccer League Kaizer Chiefs Chippa United

Posted: 13 December 2014 Time: 17:52

Kaizer Chiefs extended their lead at the summit to 14 points with a 1-0 win over Chippa United in Polokwane on Saturday evening.

Bernard Parker got the goal on 56 minutes as Amakhosi preserved their unbeaten record after 16 Absa Premiership games.

The victory, though, came at a cost as influential midfielder Willard Katsande was stretchered off with an injury in the first half at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

In the 15th minute Parker stole the ball in midfield and played Kingston Nkhatha through on goal – the Zimbabwean doing well initially to muscle his way into the box, but he failed to beat the keeper.

Mulomowandau Mathoho should have given Chiefs the lead five minutes later when he hit the crossbar with a eight-yard header after meeting a left-sided free-kick from Parker.

Chippa came close on the half-hour mark when George Akpabio used his strength to break into the Amakhosi box, but the goalkeeper denied him in a one-on-one.

The visitors should have had a penalty soon after, but Reneilwe Letsholonyane escaped punishment for tripping William Twala in the box.

Two minutes later Chiefs suffered a loss when Katsande had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Ivan Bukenya.

The half ended 0-0.

It came as no surprise that it was Parker who broke the deadlock in the 56th minute after some swift play saw him through on goal and chipping the onrushing keeper, 1-0.

The Amakhosi dominated proceedings thereafter, but they struggled to find that second goal.

Siphelele Mthembu should have scored for the Glamour Boys five minutes from time when he was put through on goal by Parker, but he was denied in a one-on-one with the keeper.

Khosi, I don't think you can say the coach fails only on the basis of fielding your not so favourate player as opposed to the good he has done to date.

@TollybaThathe

But khosi Nkatha must also sit on the bench sometimes,..his work rate is good, i understand, but he needs to be hungry,..Mthembu scored against pirates, but the next game he was benched,..Nkatha misses game by game, but he's always guaranteed a starting eleven,..no khosi, nooh!!!

Khosi. Chiefs does not need a striker with a high work rate, and will never need one in future SINCE we never had a striker that has high work rate without scoring goals. Chiefs is the only team that scores with a striker. It is an old thing at Phefini, the likes of Pollen Ndlanya, Mark Williams, Collins Mbesuma, Major, Musona, Parker. We never had a mid player becoming a top goal scorers at Chiefs.

I fail to understand people that are backing up Nkatha. With this boy as a striker, we are going nowhere. I hope Musona will come back, and you will see who will have more goals between Musona and Nkatha.

In Baxter I believe, but because of Nkatha I am soooo upset with him. With his coaching ability, how can he fail to see that Nkatha and Gaxa are the weakest players that should be playing for Pirates

tidos Yeye has made the same or similar mistakes or misses and created a goal for Platinum Star and no one said any thing. Given Nkatha is missing but if thats what we are praying for, thats what we are going to get.

i_hate_Pirates u know Baxter is choosing to use Nkatha because he knows having Nkatha teams dont get a chance to attack us the way they do when Nkatha is replaced. so his work rate works for Chiefs and the coach will play him until all the other strikers we have shows the coach they can give him the same energy

Khosi Nkatha's job is to score so if abo Yeye nabo Masango are not scoring who are we goin to look to dt is goin to score for us if we r not goin to expect Nkatha to score what is his job realy Yeye miss chances n i get frustrated bt his primary job is to link defence n attack it is Nkatha's job to score he is signed as a striker he doesnt defend he stand on d opposition's box n score bt apparently he z creating chances according to chiefs' fans
