Mpumalanga Black Aces fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Free State Stars 2-1 at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Camaldine Abrew opened the scoring on nine minutes after a defensive mix-up, and Danny Venter made it 2-0 on 35 minutes.
Tendai Ndoro pulled one back shortly afterwards to make it 2-1 at halftime, and the Zimbabwean added a second after the break, scoring from the rebound after his penalty had been saved.
Aces made most of the play early on, but it was Stars who scored on nine minutes when Abraw buried a cross from Venter.
The home side tried hard to respond, with the attacking trio of Abia Nale, Collins Mbesuma and Ndoro causing all sorts of problems.
Mbesuma missed an easy tap-in from a great delivery by Nale before Stars scored a sucker-punch second – this time Abrew provided for Venter to slot home.
But two minutes later Aces replied when a brilliant pass from Zamuxolo Ngalo found Ndoro, who slotted into the far corner.
Energy Murambandoro did well to deny Paulus Masehe just before the break, but Aces were level on the hour-mark courtesy of Ndoro’s rebound from his own missed penalty.
Kinnah Phiri introduced Richard Henyekane for Abraw and he nearly found the net straight away, but missed a great opportunity from a quick counter in the 71st minute.
The draw leaves Ea Lla Koto in 13th spot with 15 points, six less than sixth-placed Aces.
